The Muni website at http://www.sfmta.com/cms/home/sfmta.php has tons of information for the San Francisco traveler. It gives you updates on new Muni construction, alerts, and information about the Clipper Card. The Clipper Card is a transit card that you preload with funds to move about on Bay Area public transit systems - Muni, BART, AC Transit, Sam Trans, VTA or Golden Gate Transit. The site also tells you about the next street closure for the Sunday Streets Program, which is a series of events put on by the city on a stretch of neighborhood streets. This is important due to possible rerouting / disruption to bus service. The next Sunday Streets will take place in the Bayview neighborhood June 12th (11:00 AM – 4:00 PM). It will include health screenings, recreational activities, many children activities, food / will include the 2nd Annual Bayview Music Festival at 3rd Street / Galvez.

You should know that the California Street cable car line is under construction until at least mid-June. Public transportation can be crowded and delays happen from time to time, so plan accordingly. Public transportation can be an adventure.

The Celebrating Mexico Exhibition will highlight the Mexican Revolution and Mexico’s Independence from Spain with activities, lectures and displays from 6/18/11 – 9/15/11. Sara Poot –Hererra (University of California – Santa Barbara) will lecture on the role of women during the Mexican Wars of Independence. The lecture will be held in Spanish, with an English / Spanish discussion afterwards. This program is sponsored by the Consulate General of Mexico. SF Underground Market is a place where vendors sell items that are not necessarily made in a commercial kitchen, but who often have delicious, creative and edible wares for you to sample and purchase. On June 11th(Saturday), the market will be held at Public Works, which is located at 161 Erie Street, SF, CA 94103. · Off the Grid is an event at Fort Mason Center that takes place on Fridays from 5:00 – 10 PM. Present will be some of the best food vendors and artisan ale producers selling their products. SF International LGBT Film Festival (Frameline 35) celebrates its 35thanniversary and will hold screenings throughout San Francisco on the Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, Transgender (LGBT) international experience. There will be over short films / documentaries from over 30 countries. There will be panel discussions / showings of rare film clips as well as other activities to mark this event which will take place from June 16th –June 26th. The Frameline SF International LGBT Film Festival has generously donated its extensive film archives to the Hormel Center at the SF Main Public Library. From June 7 – June 30th the SF Main Library will present a Frameline Movie Archive Series, which will show selected films from the archive in their entirety, including a 1951 French Film. The Academy of Sciences is one of the coolest places in San Francisco. First of all the location –it is located in Golden Gate Park in the mist of other world premier destinations, including the De Young Museum (http://deyoung.famsf.org/) which has Picasso: Masterpieces of the Musee National Picasso, Paris on exhibition until October 9th. Also located in Golden Gate Park is the Japanese Tea Garden (http://japaneseteagardensf.com/), the oldest public Japanese tea garden in the United States.
The Academy of Sciences building is an architectural marvel with its sustainable / living roof, energy efficient systems and building materials constructed of recycled materials, solar heating, radiant heated floors and soil roof insulation to name a just few of the details of this building that help reduce the carbon footprint .
